What is the purpose of the Health Science Scholarship?
To provide financial assistance to a student who has high academic credentials and who desires to pursue a career in health science, particularly one providing care for patients with physical disabilities.
What should I cover in my essay?
Please describe any experience you have had working with patients with physical disabilities. Alternatively, or in addition, describe why pursuing a career providing care to patients with physical disabilities is appealing to you.
Are there any additional details I need to include with my essay?
Please list: (a) the best e-mail address to contact you at, (b) the name of your high school and your high school GPA on a 4.0 scale, (c) and the name of the college or university that you are attending and your college GPA on a 4.0 scale, if applicable. If you are selected for the scholarship, you may be asked to give us permission to verify with your high school and college administration the GPAs you have submitted and verify your admission to the college you have indicated.
Are freshman eligible to apply if their university does not declare majors until after first semester?
Yes. When filling out the “Current Major(s)” section of your application, please specify that you are an undeclared freshman planning to major in [Health Science degree].
Where do I submit my essay?
Essays must be submitted through the application form on the homepage of the website. Please ensure your essay is complete and meets the word count requirement before uploading, as only one submission per applicant is allowed.
When is the application deadline?
Apply by July 13, 2025
Can international students apply?
No. The scholarship is only open to U.S. students who meet all eligibility requirements.
Are part-time students eligible?
No. Only students enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university in the fall of 2025 are eligible to apply.
Can I apply if I’m currently enrolled in high school but starting college this fall?
Yes. High school seniors who will be enrolling full-time at an accredited college or university in the fall of 2025 are eligible. If selected, enrollment will be verified with the institution.
What types of degree programs qualify for the scholarship?
Eligible students must be pursuing a health science-related degree aligned with a career focused on providing care for patients with physical disabilities.
Do I need to attend a college in a specific state or region?
No. Applicants may attend any accredited college or university in the United States.
Is financial need considered in the selection process?
Students are welcome to include financial need in their essay; however, scholarship recipients will not be selected based on financial need alone. All applications will be evaluated holistically according to the scholarship’s criteria.
Can I apply if I am attending a trade school or community college?
Yes. Students attending an accredited trade school or community college and pursuing a health science-related program full-time are eligible.
How will the winner be chosen?
One student will be selected based on the overall strength of their application, including eligibility, academic performance, and the quality and depth of their essay submission.
What should be included in the essay?
Applicants must submit an essay with a minimum of 1,000 words and a maximum of 2,000 words. The essay should describe their experience working with patients with physical disabilities or their motivation for pursuing a career dedicated to serving this community. Applicants may share personal experiences, challenges, inspirations, and their future goals.
Can I submit more than one application or essay?
No. Only one application and essay per student will be accepted.
Will incomplete applications be considered?
No. Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered.
If I’ve previously won this scholarship, can I reapply next year?
No. Previous recipients are not eligible to reapply.
Do I need letters of recommendation or transcripts?
Letters of recommendation are not required and will not be factored into the selection process. However, transcripts will be requested from the selected winner to verify enrollment and GPA prior to disbursement of the scholarship.
